Sudan: Violent conflict has been going on in the African country Sudan for the last 11 months. This period of violence has become so dangerous that the crisis of hunger has deepened before the people. Here people are suffering the brunt of hunger. In such a situation, United Nations humanitarian aid agencies have become alert and these agencies have warned that due to the bloody fighting in Sudan for the last 11 months, the hunger crisis is deepening. According to the UN, the food insecurity situation in some areas may reach catastrophic levels by May this year.
Clash continues between army and paramilitary forces
There is a war going on between the army led by General Abdel Fattah al Burhan and the Rapid Support Force (RSF), a paramilitary force backed by Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo. Thousands of people have been killed in the fighting that has been going on since April last year. Adem Vosornu, director of operations at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), said on Wednesday as the one-year anniversary of the violent conflict approached. Sudan is living through one of the worst humanitarian disasters.
1.8 crore people are facing food crisis
The war, which began in April last year between the Sudanese armed forces and the paramilitary Rapid Action Force (RSF), has left 18 million people, or more than one-third of the Sudanese population, suddenly facing food insecurity. Most of these are in Darfur, Kordofan region and Khartoum and Al Jazeera provinces.
Sudan needs 33 lakh tons of grain
Deputy Director General Martina said that 3.3 million tonnes of grain imports are estimated to be needed in 2024 and there is growing concern about Sudan’s financial and operational capacity to meet these needs. Sudan is facing a humanitarian crisis under the cover of international inattention and inaction. Describing the frustration of the Sudanese population, he said that simply put, we are breaking the people of Sudan. According to the United Nations, more than 80 lakh people have been displaced due to the conflict. Seven million Sudanese children have become victims of severe malnutrition.
