New Delhi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that ED and CBI are only doing their work i.e. investigating corruption and no one should stop them. In an interview with Asianet Newsable, PM Modi responded to a question on the opposition’s allegations that the Center is misusing investigative agencies and taking action against opposition leaders to suppress their voices. PM Modi said that ‘it is the job of ED and CBI to investigate corruption. For example, would you stop a ticket checker from checking tickets in trains? Let ED-CBI do this work. The PM said that ‘as a Prime Minister, I too have no right to interfere in the work of ED.’
PM Narendra Modi said that if ED and CBI do not do their work then questions should be raised, but here the opposition is asking why the agencies are doing their work. He noted that only 3 percent of the cases registered by the ED are against political figures. He stressed that the remaining 97 percent of the cases are against non-political persons. He asked ‘Why is no one talking about this?’
Assets worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore seized after 2014
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that ‘before 2014, ED had registered 1800 cases. However, since then the anti-corruption agency has taken over ‘more than 5,000 cases and this itself shows the efficiency of the ED.’ He further said that the investigating agency has conducted 7000 searches since 2014, whereas earlier only 84 searches were conducted. PM Modi said that ‘property worth Rs 1.25 lakh crore was confiscated after 2014.’ In another interview last week, Prime Minister Modi had praised the role of ED in tackling black money and corruption in the country in the last decade.
