New Delhi. The alleged assault case involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal has become a topic of discussion in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi said it was a matter concerning her party, emphasizing her stance in support of women and the need for AAP to address the issue internally. He stressed, “If something wrong happens to women, we stand with them. I always stand with women, no matter which party they belong to. Secondly, AAP will discuss internally. They will take decisions within themselves. This is his party’s matter.”
Vibhav Kumar, close to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, is embroiled in an alleged assault case involving Swati Maliwal. Recently Vibhav Kumar and Arvind Kejriwal were seen together in a car. When ABP News contacted for comment, AAP workers attempted to save him.
Regarding the matter, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that it has been taken seriously and strict action will be taken. He revealed that Swati Maliwal had gone to meet Arvind Kejriwal on Monday, May 13 and was waiting for him in the drawing room. Meanwhile, Vibhav Kumar arrived and allegedly misbehaved with Swati Maliwal.
On the other hand, Delhi Police reported that Swati Maliwal had visited the Civil Lines police station and accused a member of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal staff of assaulting her at the CM House. However, Swati Maliwal has not filed any written complaint yet.
This incident has sparked political debate and parties are taking their respective stands. Congress claims its support towards women and calls on AAP to handle the matter internally, while AAP promises strict action and awaits formal complaints. The involvement of prominent people like Arvind Kejriwal and Vibhav Kumar has added complexity to the situation, which could potentially impact the political landscape ahead of the elections.
