Kohima. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday urged the negotiating parties to come together and resume Naga peace talks. All members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, irrespective of party lines, on Tuesday made a strong demand for the earliest settlement of the Naga peace process.
The Chief Minister said that the Naga political issue is discussed in every session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly as it is the top agenda of the State Government and also because the people’s representatives need to express the feelings and wishes of the people.
He said that since 1964, 17 resolutions have been passed in the Legislative Assembly on the Naga political issue.
Rio said the Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 was implemented even before Nagaland got statehood, and in addition to the atrocities committed during the insurgency movement in the past, the unfortunate incident happened recently in Oting village of Mon district. led the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
But if no solution is found and insurgency activities continue, the future of the younger generation will be at stake, he said.
He said, the Framework Agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN-IM was signed on August 3, 2015 and the agreed position between the Government of India and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPG) on November 17, 2017. Negotiations on an amicable settlement acceptable to both sides were concluded on October 31, 2019.
