The restoration and conservation work of a group of 200 temples transformed into ruins of the 11th century at Bateshwara, located in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, has intensified again these days. This time the work has started with Rs 4 crore given by the Infosys organization. In six years, 60 temples have been given an old form here, but if the budget had not stopped during the then UPA government at the Center, then this condition would not have happened.
In the Bateshwara temple complex, about 25 km from Morena, the work of conserving the ruined temples for 800 years was started in 2005 by Padmashree KK Mohammed, the then Regional Superintendent of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). In the budget of two crore rupees till 2011, 60 temples were re-erected after picking one stone each. At that time, apart from Bateshwara, restoration work of historical temples was going on in Nareshwar and Chanderi too, but in 2011 the ASI officers did not take interest in these works. Here 160 temples are still lying in a pile of stones, if the government had given the budget in the year 2011, then this work would have been completed at that time at low cost, in less time.
Infosys understood the importance but the government did not: Padma Shri KK Mohammed says that even after retiring in 2012, he did not stop efforts. Through the officials of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, the matter was also conveyed to the central government, but Bateshwara did not get the budget from any item. A year and a half ago, the head of Infosys Foundation, Sudha Murthy Bateshwara came with him and seeing the condition here, gave four crore help for the renovation. This will give the Vishnu temple and the monastery an old look, but 138 temples will still remain in a pile of stones.

The budget of ASI is limited, there are many more such places in the country, for whose conservation budget has to be given. At that time 60 temples were erected in Bateshwara, which was considered sufficient for conservation and work was done at other places. Yes, Vishnu temple, Math will be renovated with four crore rupees from Infosys Foundation, after that the stepwell will be protected. Efforts will also be made gradually to restore 140 temples.
