According to doctors, screen addiction is a mental illness, for which proper treatment has now started. This treatment has been named digital detox. Many SHUT Clinics have opened to deal with this disease. This has started in AIIMS also.
The full form of SHUT is (Service for Healthy Use of Technology. The first shut clinic was started at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience center in Bagaluru. After that, these shut clinics started opening in many hospitals. It was also started in Nimhans hospital of Bengaluru. Services are available. A large number of people come to this clinic with their technology addiction problems. Doctor Manoj Sharma of Shut Clinic has shared some data based on the survey in urban societies of Bangalore, according to which:
1. About 5% youth in the age group of 18-25 years are addicted to social networking sites.
2.About 24% women are victims of problematic use of internet.
3.1.3 percent people in the age group of 18-65 years are addicted to internet, 3.5% to social networking sites, 4% to online shopping, .2% to online pornography, 1.2% to gambling addiction and 4.1% overall to mobile phones. . Survey found that digital addiction is more among single and unmarried people than among family people.
