Teeth Regrow Drug News: It is a natural process for teeth to fall out in childhood and then grow back, but it is not normal to do so in young age. If a person’s teeth fall out at the age of 30 or 40, then expensive options like dental implants and dentures have to be found for this. These procedures are not effective for all people and people remain troubled throughout their lives. However, a Japanese startup has claimed to make a medicine that can grow teeth. It is believed that if the human trial of this medicine is successful, then there can be a new revolution in the field of teeth. With this medicine, people’s teeth will be able to grow again.
TOI report According to him, human trials of the drug that regrows teeth will begin next month. So far, this drug has been tested on mice and amazing results have come out in this trial. Toregram Biopharma, a startup associated with Kyoto University of Japan, has created this treatment. Its target is to bring the drug that regrows teeth to the market by the year 2030. This drug can also prove beneficial for those patients who have been missing some or all of their teeth since birth. This condition is called congenital anodontia.
Experts who prepared this drug say that this drug will also be offered to those people whose teeth break in young age or later in life. This drug targets a specific protein that prevents the growth of teeth. The population of people with congenital anodontia is around 0.1%, who get dental implants or dentures as adults. There is no cure for this disease yet, but the new drug can be a solution to this problem. Researchers want to make the new drug an alternative to the problem of not having teeth.
To test the safety of the drug, the company is set to conduct a Phase 1 clinical trial on 30 healthy adults in September 2024. If all goes well in the Phase 1 trial, Phase 2 trials of the drug will begin in 2025, which plans to assess the effectiveness of the drug in treating patients aged 2 to 7 years with congenital anodontia. Toregem hopes to offer the antibody drug for 1.5 million yen (around Rs 8 lakh) and it will be covered under health insurance.
