The Election Commission is responsible for conducting free and fair elections in the country. It is a constitutional institution. In such a situation, this institution has been given great power under the Constitution. No officer or leader can violate the instructions of the Election Commission. In such a situation, the Commission became very strict regarding senior Indian Police Service officer Ashish Kumar Singh, who went on medical leave during the elections. On the instructions of the Commission, Singh was medically examined at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
The Election Commission had ordered a detailed investigation of IG (Chief Minister Security) Singh by a special medical board constituted by the Director of AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. The Commission had said in an order that the medical report of Ashish Kumar Singh, who has been on medical leave since May 4, should reach the Commission by May 31.
Sources said the 2010 batch IPS officer arrived at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar at around 8.30 am and left at 1 pm. On April 2, the Election Commission removed Singh from the post of IG-Central Range Police in view of conducting free and fair elections in the state and ordered him to refrain from participating in election-related activities. After this, the Odisha government appointed him as IG (Chief Minister Security).
The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party had filed a complaint against Singh with the Election Commission on April 5, alleging that the IPS officer continued to work in favour of the Biju Janata Dal. Lok Sabha and assembly elections are being held simultaneously in Odisha.
