A student of IIT-Guwahati was going to join a terrorist organization. He was detained near Hajo in Kamrup district of Assam on Saturday night. Police gave information about the matter. Assam Director General of Police GP Singh said the IIT-Guwahati student, who pledged allegiance to ISIS, has been detained during the yatra and further legal action will be taken.

Additional Superintendent of Police (STF) Kalyan Kumar Pathak said, “After receiving the email we confirmed the authenticity of the content and started investigation. The student wrote the email and said that he was on his way to join ISIS.” According to Pathak, IIT-Guwahati authorities were immediately informed that the student concerned had gone “missing” and his cell phone had been switched off.

The police officer said that the student is a resident of Okhla, Delhi and is a fourth year student. According to the police, after launching a search operation, the student was found in Hajo area, about 30 km from Guwahati, with the help of local people. Pathak said, “After initial questioning he was taken to the STF office. We are verifying the email.” According to him, a black flag that allegedly resembled the ISIS flag was found in the student’s hostel room. (Input- IANS)
