Kanpur: Every year, lakhs of people in the country and the world lose their lives due to cancer. The main reason for this is that cancer is not detected on time, which delays treatment and the patient dies. In particular, cases of oral cancer are reported in abundance, but by the time it is detected, it is too late. But this will not happen now. IIT Kanpur has developed a special toothbrush-like device, which will take some photos as soon as it is put in the mouth and with the help of sensors, it will detect whether there are any symptoms of oral cancer or not.
This device will also give the report through mobile phone in a moment. IIT Kanpur has given the license of this device to Scangeni Scientific Private Limited, and soon this device will be available in the market.
This is how it works
Senior Professor Jayant Kumar Singh of the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Kanpur and his team have designed this special mouth tester. This device is the size of a toothbrush, which has many cameras and sensors installed in it. When it is inserted in someone’s mouth, it takes pictures of the inside of the mouth and the sensors recognize the structure of the mouth. After this, this device prepares a report based on a normal and cancerous mouth, which gets connected to the mobile phone and becomes immediately available on the phone. With this, it can be estimated whether you are suffering from oral cancer or not, after which you can save your life by getting yourself examined and treated in time.
A boon for rural areas
Many camps are organized and hospitals are also there for cancer screening in big cities, but in rural areas, where medical facilities are still limited, it is very difficult to screen for oral cancer. But after the arrival of this device, now screening can be done in villages with the help of only medical staff in areas where there are no medical facilities. This will save the lives of a large number of people.
Oral cancer can be easily detected
Senior Professor Jayant Kumar Singh of IIT Kanpur, who developed this device, said that this is no less than a boon for the common people. Every year lakhs of people in the country lose their lives due to oral cancer, because they are not screened on time. But with the advent of this device, oral cancer can be easily detected and screening will be possible even in rural areas. The technology license of this device is now available in the market, and soon you will see this device in the market.
