When did this matter come to light
The 25-year-old Algerian player came under scrutiny when her opponent Angela Carini of Italy withdrew from the opening match on August 1. Carini complained of pain after receiving a strong punch against Khalif, following which rumours spread online that Iman was a transgender or a man. However, Carini apologised to Iman for the withdrawal and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) condemned media reports spreading misinformation about Iman. The IOC confirmed and reassured everyone that Iman was born a woman and has played in women’s competition on several other occasions.
Iman Khalif complained
Iman Khalif faced the most trouble in the Olympics when many prominent personalities like JK Rowling and Elon Musk shared posts on X that contradicted her case. After which she became a victim of online abuse. Khalif’s lawyer Nabil Boudi on Sunday filed a complaint with a special unit at the Paris prosecutor’s office against the gold medal winning boxer for serious cyber harassment and misogynistic, racist campaign. This has been the biggest controversy of this time’s Olympics. Even after she won the gold medal, people trolled her a lot on social media.
