New Delhi: As soon as the weather changed, suddenly the heat started increasing. After winter, the spring season did not feel like summer has arrived, due to which the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heat wave in many states of South India. The weather agency has predicted heat wave conditions in parts of the country from April 3 to April 6, including coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and Karaikal from April 2 to April 6, Telangana from April 2 to April 4. The weather is expected to remain harsh in South Interior Karnataka and in Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam-Rayalaseema on April 2 and April 3.
Heat will haunt these states only in April
IMD said that heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in different parts of North Interior Karnataka throughout this week of April from April 3 to April 5. Apart from this, there is a possibility of heatwave in some parts of Jharkhand and Andhra Pradesh. It also predicts that most parts of the northern plains of the country will be warmer than normal from April to June. The regions most likely to experience increased heat are Gujarat, Maharashtra, North Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh.
This time there will be more summer days
Mrityunjay Mahapatra, Director General of Meteorology at IMD, said in a press briefing that normal rainfall is also expected in the month of April across the country. “This year, maximum temperatures are likely to be above normal in most parts of the country, especially in central India and western peninsular India,” Mohapatra said.
Mohapatra said that maximum temperatures are likely to remain below normal in the western Himalayan region, north-eastern states and parts of northern Odisha. On the heatwave situation, Mahapatra said: “Most parts of the country are likely to experience more than normal heatwave days. Heatwaves are likely to last 10 to 20 days in different parts against the normal duration of 4 to 8 days.”
