Islamabad: Jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has sought permission for personal presence during the hearing of his petition seeking to quash the amendments to the National Accountability Ordinance moved by the Pakistan Democratic Movement government. Imran Khan has also requested for live telecast of the hearing of the case.
Imran did not get a chance to present his views
Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn News’ quoted Imran Khan’s lawyer as saying that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party president had filed an application in the Supreme Court in this case through the Adiala Jail authorities. The case was heard in the Supreme Court of Pakistan a week ago. During this time, Khan appeared in the court through video link as a petitioner, but he was not given a chance to present his side.
Imran lashed out at opponents
“I have a match in the Supreme Court on May 30,” cricketer-turned-politician Khan told reporters after a hearing in the corruption case. Imran Khan is currently serving sentences in Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail in the Toshakhana case, un-Islamic marriage and issuing confidential documents cases. Khan said he was convicted thrice before the February 8 general election in Pakistan, but people voted in favour of his party despite all the negative propaganda, “they (opposition parties) were thinking that PTI will not contest the elections.”
PTI is exercising restraint
Imran claimed that his party had won the elections in Islamabad by a huge margin. Khan said that the PTI was exercising restraint due to the fragile state of the country’s economy. However, he also indicated that his party might stage protests during the upcoming budget session of Parliament. (Language)
