Imran was attacked
Khan was attacked at his rally in Wazirabad, about 150 km from Lahore. After this, he was injured by being shot in the leg. Khan blamed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Home Minister Rana Sanaullah and top ISI official Major General Faisal Naseer for plotting his assassination. He said, “The Home Minister (Sanaullah) says that my life is in danger from foreign agencies. Let me make it clear to the whole country that my life is in danger only from three people whose names I had taken after the assassination attempt in Wazirabad. I have issued a statement in a video, identifying these three people along with three more people who tried to kill me on March 18.
Refusal to reveal the identity of three people
Khan did not reveal the identity of the three others. On March 18, before Khan appeared in a court in a corruption case, clashes broke out between security forces and supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party outside the judicial complex in Islamabad. Khan tweeted and clearly said that if he is killed, only those people whose names are in the video will be responsible. He said, “If there is any attempt now to take my life, then these people will be responsible. The way they just tried to blow the dust by trying to blame a religious extremist for the Wazirabad attack, they are now again deceiving foreign agencies.”
People scared of returning to power
Khan said, “I want to make it very clear to the country that only those people whom I have identified will be responsible for any attempt on my life. They are worried about this. Khan’s party has been pushing for early general elections in the country, but the Prime Minister Sharif-led government has stuck to its stand of holding simultaneous elections in the country. The term of the current National Assembly will end on August 13 and elections are likely to be held thereafter.
