Islamabad: In Afghanistan, a gunman shot six people who were offering namaz. The incident has created a stir. It is being told that a gunman entered a mosque in western Afghanistan and started firing, causing panic among the people offering namaz there. During this attack, 6 people died. A Taliban official gave this information on Tuesday. Local media have reported and a former Afghan president said the mosque was targeted because it belonged to the minority Shia community.
Taliban-ruled Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Matin Kani said the attack took place on Monday night in Gujra district of Herat province. He said on social media that the incident is being investigated. One person was also injured in the attack and the gunman fled from the spot. No organization immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Local media reported that the mosque’s imam was also among those killed.
Former President condemned the attack
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on social media platform ‘X’, “I strongly condemn the attack on Imam Zaman Mosque. “I consider this a terrorist attack against all religious and humanitarian standards.” The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan also condemned the attack, saying seven people, including a child, were killed and injured in the incident. Organizations affiliated with Islamic State are the main rivals of the Taliban in Afghanistan. They often target schools, hospitals, mosques and Shia dominated areas. (AP)
