Gurugram: Gurugram Police issued an order saying that now no vehicle will be stopped at night and no challan will be issued. After receiving complaints during checking at night, Gurugram DCP Traffic has issued instructions. This will provide relief to drivers from any kind of trouble at night. In special cases, permission will have to be taken from a higher rank officer.
Deputy Commissioner Virendra Vij issued a letter on May 28 saying, ‘Traffic inspectors are ordered to instruct all officers in their area not to stop any vehicle at night and not to issue any challan. If it is very necessary to issue a challan to a driver under the Motor Vehicles Act, then in that case, the challan of that vehicle should be issued as per rules only after bringing it to the notice of the concerned gazetted officer and obtaining permission.’
While issuing a warning, the DCP said that if any policeman does not follow the order, strict action will be taken against him. He said that the orders should be followed strictly. If any traffic police officer is found negligent, strict departmental action will be taken against him as per the rules with immediate effect. He said that night traffic police has been deployed to ensure smooth flow of traffic at night and to ensure that common people do not face any inconvenience in travelling on the road.
He said in his letter that I have come to know that some policemen are deliberately harassing people at night, stopping their vehicles and issuing challans, so such policemen should be careful. Their job is to help people and not harass them. They should help common people and car drivers and arrange for safe passage in case of road accidents.
However, as soon as this order of the DCP of Gurugram Traffic Police came into effect, many people were seen violating the traffic rules. It is being seen continuously that people are driving cars at high speed and carelessly on the roads of Gurugram at night. This has increased the possibility of accidents even more. DCP Virendra Vij said that the traffic police will continue to take strict action against those who drive vehicles after drinking alcohol at night, so that no major accident occurs.
