A big fraud case has come to light in Noida, in which crores of rupees were cheated from hundreds of students in the name of getting admission in medical colleges. The police have caught the gang, who was active in Noida and Pune and was charging a hefty amount from them by pretending to enroll the students in prestigious medical colleges in the country and abroad.
6 members of the gang arrested, checks worth Rs 5 crore recovered
Police said that 6 people involved in this fraud have been arrested, including 2 women. The arrested accused have been identified as Rahul Kumar (Bihar), Anupam Kumar (Bihar), Dayanand Pandey (Nagpur), Sachin Singh (Agra), Vidushi Lohia (Gorakhpur) and Nikita Upadhyay (Jharkhand). Apart from this, another accused Sonu is still absconding.
More than Rs 5 crore checks, laptops, and 16 mobiles have been seized from the arrested accused. Police said that the gang used to contact students through social media and lured them to get admission in medical or engineering colleges.
Way of fraud
According to the police, the accused had run an office in the building in a sector-62, where they promised to enroll students in medical and engineering colleges. In return, he used to charge 6 to 10 lakh rupees from each student. He was on his target students who wanted to enroll in prestigious medical colleges. The gang members contacted students through social media and made them part of their plans.
Educated accused, more than 500 fraud victims
Police said that all the members of this gang are educated. The gang leader Rahul Kumar and Anupam Kumar both obtained BSC and BBA degrees from Patna University, while other members were also BBA and BCom pass. These people were given a monthly salary of 40 to 50 thousand rupees.
The accused told the police that by now they had cheated more than 500 students. The case has been registered by the Noida Police and further legal action is being taken.
