What mistake did JJB make earlier?
Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkavade said, “The hearing was held before the JJ Board and it accepted our plea.” The police claim that at the time of the accident on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune, a 17-year-old boy was driving the Porsche car in an inebriated state. According to the Juvenile Justice Act, a minor will be questioned in the presence of his parents. A few hours after the accident, the JJB granted bail to the son of real estate businessman Vishal Agarwal in this case. He was asked to write an essay of 300 words on road safety.
JJB had reversed its decision…
Following heavy criticism, the police JJB modified its order and sent the accused to a correctional home till June 5. After a JJ board member granted bail to the juvenile, the Maharashtra government formed a committee to probe the conduct of JJB members and see if norms were followed while passing the order in the Pune car accident case.
