New Delhi. A person working as Senior Manager Corporate Communication in NTPC, Noida, found a shortcut to earn money. Bills worth lakhs of crores were passed on his one sign. In such a situation, he thought that why should he arrange to earn commission in between. Due to this small greed, he risked his career. What happened was that on Friday, CBI arrested him red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 8 lakh.
The CBI arrested NTPC senior manager (corporate communications) Vijay Kumar in Mumbai, an official of the investigating agency said. He had reached Mumbai from Delhi to take bribe. The official said that the vice president of an advertising company had complained against Kumar for demanding a bribe in exchange for passing a bill worth about Rs 40 lakh.
NTPC had given the contract
Meanwhile, NTPC said in a statement, “We are deeply concerned about the allegations of bribery against one of our employees. The alleged incident is an individual act and does not reflect the values of our organization. The accused employee has been suspended with immediate effect.” This advertising company had set up booths in Andaman Nicobar and Puducherry in January-February and had deposited a bill of Rs 40 lakh to NTPC in that regard.

Worked in Andaman and Nicobar
Officials said completion certificates were not attached to the bills as these certificates were to be issued by the local administrative authorities of Andaman and Nicobar and Puducherry. He said that when the company representatives went to the local administrative offices in Andaman and Nicobar and Puducherry and requested to issue the work completion certificate, they were told that an email or call was required from NTPC in this regard.
Company stuck between 2 departments
According to officials, when the vice president of the advertising company approached Kumar regarding communication with local officials, he allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 6 lakh while assuring that he would get the bill approved without any hindrance. According to officials, Kumar later increased the bribe demand to Rs 9.45 lakh. After negotiation it was reduced to Rs 8 lakh. On receiving a complaint in this regard, CBI laid a trap in Mumbai where Kumar was caught red handed while taking bribe. Kumar was later arrested and his residence in Noida was also searched.
