Meerut. There is a debate going on in the Parliament regarding the amendment in the Waqf Act. The opposition is opposing this bill in the Parliament. If we talk about Meerut, many Muslim families are supporting this amendment law and saluting the Modi government. Nadir Ali Band Company, which gave Meerut recognition on the international platform, fell prey to the weak law of this Waqf. Thousands of crores of Nadir Ali Company’s property was ruined. It is alleged that property worth billions was sold on false permission and property worth crores was distributed by showing rent of just 100 to 500 rupees. In this game of Waqf Board and Mutawalli, the real owners of the property were deprived of their rights. The situation is such that the real owners of the property are now waiting for this amendment law.
Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh is known for sports and band business. Band equipment is made in the narrow lanes of Meerut and is sold with great fanfare on the international stage. Nadir Ali Textile Company of Meerut has contributed to the band industry reaching its peak since before independence. Nadir Ali and Mohammad Isar Khan, who run this company, had registered their properties in 1941. The 30000 yard palace and the 6000 yard Nadir Ali building on Delhi Road are also the properties of this Waqf, but the children of Nadir Ali and Isaak Khan developed bad intentions. Due to collusion with the Mutawali of the Waqf, Nadir Ali’s palace was sold for Rs 90 lakh.
It is alleged that this palace was sold undervalued against the Waqf law. An FIR was also registered in this case but the witnesses kept quiet due to political pressure and the glitter of money. Farhat Masood, a descendant of Isaak Khan, is still fighting this case. According to him, the palace worth billions was sold for a pittance and he did not even get a share in it. His son is fighting a legal battle with the district administration and he is fighting a legal battle with the Waqf Board but the situation is such that even RTIs are not answered.
There are properties worth thousands of crores in Meerut which have fallen prey to the weak Waqf laws. The Mutawalli and the board officials have divided the properties among themselves. There are some properties which have been ruined and crores have been distributed. And on some properties, crores have been distributed by charging rent of Rs. 100 to 500. The district administration is seen avoiding taking action in such cases by calling the Waqf law complicated.
