new Delhi . A week after the results of the assembly elections were announced, the suspense about the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand continues. Meanwhile, newly elected BJP MLAs from the state have been asked to stay in the state capital for the next few days from March 20. The results of the assembly elections were announced on March 10 and the BJP appointed central observers for the election of the leader of the legislature party on March 14, but a week later it is still not certain when the new chief minister will be elected. The BJP has appointed Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi as central observers.
The BJP retained power in Uttarakhand for a second term by winning 47 seats in the 70-member house. A party insider claims that the defeat of Pushkar Singh Dhami from Khatima is the main reason for the delay in the election of the new Chief Minister and the formation of the new government in Uttarakhand.
A Uttarakhand BJP leader said, “After Dhami’s defeat, the party leadership will first decide whether he will be given a chance to succeed in leading the party to a historic victory. Even eight days after the election results were announced, we Ignorant about the formation of the government.”
It is learned that the BJP leadership is trying to find a suitable formula acceptable to all without going against its own stand. A BJP source said, “Our leadership is discussing several possibilities for formation of a new Uttarakhand government and the same is likely to be revealed in the next one or two days.”
Meanwhile, the BJP asked all the newly elected MLAs to stay in Dehradun from March 20 and complete the process of new government formation. He said, “All BJP MLAs have been asked to stay in Dehradun for two-three days from March 20. We believe that our leadership has made this move to convene a legislature party meeting to elect a new leader and stake claim to form the government. The instructions have been given. The oath will be taken soon after that.”
