New Delhi. After Congress, now another political party has been issued a notice for recovery of dues by the Income Tax Department. The Income Tax Department has issued a notice to the Communist Party of India (CPI) regarding payment of dues worth Rs 11 crore for using old PAN cards while filing returns over the past few years. The dues to be paid to the Income Tax Department include penalty and interest payable to the authorities for discrepancies in the use of the old PAN card by the party. Earlier today, the Income Tax Department has issued a notice to the Congress Party to deposit the dues of Rs 1,823 crore.
Left party leaders are consulting their lawyers to challenge the notice from the Income Tax authorities. A CPI leader said that we are taking legal aid and consulting our lawyers. Earlier, the Congress had said it had received a notice from the Income Tax Department, asking the party to pay dues of over Rs 1,823 crore for discrepancies in tax returns filed for previous years. This notice has been sent for the year 2017-18 to 2020-21. In this notice sent by the Income Tax Department, along with the tax, penalty and interest have also been added. While Congress has accused BJP in this regard, the Central Government has also reacted to it. Earlier on Thursday, the Delhi High Court had rejected the petition filed by the Congress Party against the action of the Income Tax Department. On the other hand, Trinamool Congress leader Saket Gokhale has also claimed that he has received 11 notices from the Income Tax Department in the last 72 hours.
