People think that triglycerides do not have any special effect on health, but this is the biggest misconception. The most ignored thing can be dangerous for heart health. If the amount of triglycerides exceeds the limit, then heart attack and stroke can occur. In such a situation, everyone should get triglycerides checked along with cholesterol and if it is increased, then it should be controlled.

When you eat calorie-rich foods, the extra calories are stored in the body as triglycerides. However, excessive triglyceride levels have a bad effect on heart health. The range of triglycerides in our blood should be 150 mg/dL or less. If this level is between 150 to 199 mg/dL, then it is considered high triglycerides. If it is above 200 mg/dL, people should consult a doctor and take medicine.

High triglycerides can lead to increased plaque accumulation in the blood arteries, which can impede blood supply. This increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. High levels of triglycerides are associated with being overweight or obese. Accumulation of extra fat in the body puts additional pressure on the heart and blood vessels, which can increase the risk of heart disease. High triglyceride levels can be a sign of metabolic syndrome. According to many studies, high triglycerides increase the risk of coronary artery disease (CAD) and heart attack.

This is how triglycerides can be controlled

– To control triglycerides, include more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low-fat foods in your diet. Avoid consuming saturated and trans fats. It is very important to drink adequate amount of water.

– Exercising daily can reduce triglyceride levels and improve heart health. Triglycerides can be controlled by reducing weight or obesity.

– Excessive consumption of alcohol can increase the level of triglycerides. In such a situation, stay away from alcohol. Regular health checkups and taking medicines as per the doctor’s advice can also help in controlling triglycerides.
