Rohit Sharma
The Indian team on the Sri Lanka tour is facing difficulties in the ODI series. After the first match was tied, Team India, captained by Rohit, suffered a crushing defeat of 32 runs in the second ODI. In such a situation, now Team India is in danger of losing the series. If India has to level the series, then it will have to win the third and last ODI at any cost. In the second ODI, Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave a great start to the team but after the first wicket fell, the whole team faltered. Rohit Sharma played an innings of 64 runs in 44 balls. Apart from Rohit, openers Shubman Gill and Akshar Patel tried to settle at the crease but it was not enough. The Sri Lankan bowlers did not allow the Indian batsmen to play freely, as a result of which Team India could not play the full 50 overs and collapsed for 208 runs in just 42.2 overs.
Rohit Sharma was very disappointed with this defeat and now he has requested the batsmen to take some risk so that better results can be achieved. RCB’s official website quoted Rohit as saying, “When you lose a match, everything hurts. It is not just about 10 overs. You have to play consistent cricket and we failed that day. I am a little disappointed but it happens. You have to adapt yourself according to the situation.”
Batsmen will have to take risks
Rohit further said, “As a left-right batsman, we thought it would be easy to rotate the strike. Credit goes to Jeffrey who took 6 wickets. I was able to score 65 runs because I played accordingly. When I bat, I have to take a little risk. If you don’t cross the line, you will always have to face disappointment.”
The third and final match of the 3-match ODI series between India and Sri Lanka will be played on August 7 at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Host Sri Lanka will have a great opportunity to capture the series with a win in the third match as the Indian team is trailing 0-1. India will have to win the third match to avoid defeat in the series. If Sri Lanka manages to win the series, it will achieve the historic feat of winning an ODI series against India after 1997.
