IND vs SL: The history of 1997 should not be repeated
India vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI Match: The last match of the ODI series being played between India and Sri Lanka is about to take place now. Team India is trailing in the series after losing one match. If the next match is lost, the series will also be lost. Although the Indian team was leading at one point in both the matches, it started lagging behind later. Now an attempt will be made to save the series by winning the next match. Meanwhile, there is also a fear that the history which has not been done since 1997, may be repeated.
27 years ago, Team India lost the ODI series to Sri Lanka
Whenever there has been an ODI series between India and Sri Lanka, Team India has dominated. But this time the tables seem to be turning. If the Indian cricket team has to avoid losing the series to Sri Lanka after 27 years, then it will have to play by dominating the spinners in the third and final ODI. India had to face defeat in an ODI series against Sri Lanka for the last time in 1997. The Sri Lankan team captained by Arjuna Ranatunga then defeated the Indian team captained by Sachin Tendulkar in all three matches. Since then, 11 ODI series have been played between India and Sri Lanka and the Indian team has been victorious in all of them.
Indian team fell behind in the first match
In fact, India’s crisis had increased after the first match itself, when a nearly won match was tied. After this, instead of making a comeback in the next match, Team India lost that match by 32 runs and fell behind in the series. The big thing is that two matches have been played in the series so far. Apart from captain Rohit Sharma, no other batsman has been able to bat in the way for which he is known and recognized. Be it Shubman Gill or Virat Kohli, they are missing batting in their style. Even KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are not able to impress in the middle order. Talking about Virat Kohli, he has been able to contribute only 38 runs in two matches so far.
Team India should be cautious of Sri Lankan spinners
The key to Sri Lanka’s victory is their spinners. They have the ability to make a comeback in a lost match. The way Jeffrey Vandersay made the Indian batsmen dance in the last match, Team India needs to be cautious. While Sri Lankan spinners are wreaking havoc on the same pitch, India’s Kuldeep Yadav, Washington Sundar and Akshar Patel are not able to bowl like that yet. Meanwhile, Team India has got a full two-day break, it is likely that the players would have prepared during this time and found a way to counter the opposing team’s bowlers. Now, which way the series will go, it will be decided only on August 7.
