IND vs SL, 3rd ODI: A 3-match ODI series match is being played between India and Sri Lanka at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 248 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in 50 overs. Avishka Fernando scored 96 runs and Kusal Mendis scored 59 runs for Sri Lanka. Debutant Riyan Parag took the maximum of 3 wickets for India. In the final overs, the Indian bowlers tried their best to take wickets but failed to bowl out the host team. During this, an incident was witnessed which surprised everyone.
Actually, Kuldeep Yadav came to bowl his 10th over in the 49th over of Sri Lanka’s innings. On the fourth ball of this over, Kuldeep sent Kusal Mendis to the pavilion and then on the last ball of the over, he fooled Mahish Teekshana. Kuldeep’s last ball was back of good length on the fourth stump, which Teekshana could not read and missed while trying to hit it by moving forward. Meanwhile, Pant caught the ball and hit it on the stumps, but by then the batsman’s bat had come in the crease. After this, the Indian players appealed, after which the field umpire went to the third umpire for the result. It was clearly visible in the replay that Teekshana put his bat back inside the crease even before Pant scattered the stumps. In such a situation, the third umpire had to give the decision of not out but pressed the out button by mistake. As soon as Teekshana was given out on the big screen present in the stadium, everyone was surprised. Even Sri Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuriya could not control his laughter and held his head. However, the third umpire soon realized his mistake and immediately declared Theekshana not out.
Talking about Sri Lanka’s first innings, the host team got off to a great start from the opening pair Avishka Fernando and Pathum Nissanka. There was an 89-run partnership between the two for the first wicket. The first wicket fell in the form of Nissanka who was caught by Axar Patel. After this, Kusal Mendis gave full support to Avishka and took the score to 179 runs. After the second wicket fell, Sri Lanka’s middle order faltered but with Mendis’ half-century the team managed to reach 248 runs. From India’s side, Riyan Parag managed to take the maximum of 3 wickets.
