India criticized Pakistan for commenting on Waqf

New Delhi, . India on Tuesday criticized Pakistan for “motivated and unfounded comments” on the Waqf Bill and cited Pakistan’s “its poor record” in terms of protecting the rights of minorities.

In response to media questions about the comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Bill, Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said, “We strongly reject the motivated and baseless comments made by Pakistan on the Waqf Amendment Act passed by the Parliament of India. Pakistan has no right to comment on the internal affairs of India.”

He said, “When it comes to protecting the rights of minorities, Pakistan should look at its own bad record instead of preaching others.”

The Act of Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 2025 (UMED Act) has been marked as a “significant twist” in the reforms made in Waqf laws between 1913 and 2025 for social benefits from Waqf properties.

The Ministry of Minority Affairs recently said in a post on social media, “Changes in Waqf laws in India from 1913 to 2025 reflect a strong effort for the safety and management of Waqf properties for the benefit of the society. Each law aims to solve the existing problems while maintaining the main objective of Waqf Sanskrit.”

The government believes that the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 is an important step towards making Waqf management more transparent, responsible and inclusive. Many Indian leaders removed the apprehensions and misunderstandings being spread about the bill. He has reiterated that the Waqf committees will still be led by Muslims and do not include any religious or community bias.

BJP national spokesperson and former Union Minister Syed Shahnawaz Hussain said, “The Waqf Amendment Bill is in the interest of Muslims. This will benefit the poor among them and give them a chance to develop themselves afresh.”

He said that like during the Citizenship Amendment Act, Pakistan is trying to spread misunderstandings about this bill. Hussain said, “Do not come under the guise of ill -treatment … Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working with the slogan of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.”
