India 'legitimate right to take action against Pakistan in self -defense: Former American NSA

New Delhi . Former US National Security Advisor (NSA) John Bolton said that no one wants to see widespread conflicts in South Asia, but India has every right to take action against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack. In a special interview with , Bolton said that it is extremely unfortunate that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not being allowed to live in a stable environment, tourists are being prevented from entering the region due to continuous terrorist activity from across the border.
Bolton was employed as an American NSA during the Pulwama attack in February 2019. The attack was carried out by Pakistan-based terrorist group ‘Jaish-e-Mohammed’ in which 40 CRPF jawans were killed.
Bolton said, “When I was a National Security Advisor, we encountered similar circumstances in 2019, at that time there was a terrorist attack from the Pakistani land. We had consulted with senior government officials. Then our perspective was that if the Indian government is confident that the attack has taken place from the Pakistani land and the Pakistani government has failed to stop it or helped it, then it is right to take action in self -defense.”
Bolton, former US ambassador to the United Nations, said, “I think this principle still applies. I think in the interest of India, if the military response is decided, then he should also have the reasons that prove it right. Anyone should not want to see widespread conflicts in South Asia, but the danger of terrorist attacks is something that no one should live with. That is why, reaction and self -defense are completely acceptable.”
On April 22, the terrorists fired bullets at people (mostly tourists) in Basaron Valley in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. 26 people died and several others were injured in the attack.
