New Delhi. India strongly condemned the incident of demolition of Durga temple in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh and has launched a scathing attack on the Mohammad Yunus government. India has described it as a decision taken under pressure from fundamentalists and said that the temple was demolished as a case of illegal land possession, which is unfortunate.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday, “We have received information that Durga temple at Kheelkhe of Dhaka was being demanded to be demolished by radical elements. The interim government demolished it as a case of illegal land use instead of ensuring the security of the temple.”
He said that the idol of the goddess was damaged in this incident, which was later removed. Jaiswal said, “We are hurt that such incidents are happening frequently in Bangladesh. It is the responsibility of the Bangladesh government to protect the Hindu community, their property and religious places.”
Earlier this week, Human Rights Congress for Bangladesh Minorities (HRCBM) exposed another incident, in which Mahasati Mansa and Durga temple in Dinajpur district were targeted by anti -social elements.
HRCBM’s statement said, “The attackers vandalized the temple, fragmented the idols and beheaded the idol of Goddess Mansa. It was an extremely derogatory and fear -spreading act that aims to scare and humiliate Hindu minorities.”
It was said that institutional fear among the Hindu community in Bangladesh is widespread, which has arisen from violence, social boycott and systemic failures over the years.
India has once again clarified that “organized harassment” against Hindu minorities continues under the interim government led by Mohammed Younus.
Meanwhile, when asked questions about the recent tripartite meeting of China, Pakistan and Bangladesh, the Ministry of External Affairs said that India is keeping a cautious watch on the developments happening in its neighborhood.
