india vs sri lanka
A very exciting match was played between India and Sri Lanka on Friday, August 2 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The result of the first match of the three-match ODI series being played between the two teams ended in a draw. Batting first in this match, the Sri Lankan team scored 230 runs. While chasing this target, Team India also got all out on the same score. India has surpassed Australia in terms of playing the most tied matches in ODI cricket. This was their 10th tied match in this format, due to which they have come in second place after West Indies. Even after the match ended in a tie between the two teams, a super over was not organized in this match. In such a situation, let us know why this was not done.
Why did the super over not happen?
Everyone wants to know the reason behind there being no super over in the match played between India and Sri Lanka, so let us give you complete information about it. Actually, if any match ends in a tie, then a super over is organized to make the result in favor of one team in that match. Something similar was seen in the last T20 match. When the third T20 match between India and Sri Lanka was tied and Team India then won that match in the super over, but this was not seen after the ODI match. Actually the reason behind this is that a super over will not be organized in any bilateral ODI series.

History of Super Over
The Super Over was first used in T20 in 2008, replacing the bowl-out rule previously used for tie match results. The Super Over was introduced in the 2011 Cricket World Cup but was not required. For the next World Cup, a Super Over would decide the final only in case of a tie. Ties in other knockout stage matches reverted to the previous rule where the team with the better group stage performance would advance. But the ICC changed its rules in the year 2017 and added the Super Over in the final as well as knockout matches. In such a situation, during a major ODI tournament, Super Overs are played only in knockout matches and finals.
