Expansion
The Test series between India and Sri Lanka is starting from March 4. Former Indian captain Virat Kohli will also complete his 100 Tests in this match. She will be the 12th Indian player to do so. Virat can also complete his 8000 test runs in this match. Kohli will be the sixth Indian batsman to make this record. He is just 38 runs away from completing his 8000 runs in Tests. Before him, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Sunil Gavaskar, Virender Sehwag and VVS Laxman have done this feat.
If Virat makes 38 runs in the first innings of the Mohali Test, then he will be the fifth Indian player to become the fastest to 8,000 runs in Tests. In this situation, he would complete eight thousand Test runs in 169 innings.
Sachin had completed eight thousand runs in just 154 innings
Sachin is the fastest batsman to score eight runs in Tests. He achieved this record in 154 innings. He was followed by Rahul Dravid in 158 innings, Virender Sehwag in 160 and Sunil Gavaskar in 166 innings. However, Virat has been battling for runs for the last two years. His last century with the bat came against Bangladesh in November 2019. This is the first time in Virat’s career, when he has not been able to score a century for two consecutive years.
How was the record at home last year?
Virat played five Test matches in India in the year 2021. In this, he scored 208 runs at an average of just 26. This is his worst record in any year. He was also dismissed for zero thrice in eight innings. Six out of eight spin bowlers took his wicket. Kohli was dismissed thrice against the off-spinner and thrice against the left-arm spinner. Virat must have been refreshed after the break from the T20I series against Sri Lanka and now he is expected to do better.
Great record against Sri Lanka
Virat Kohli’s record against Sri Lanka is excellent. When this team last toured India, Virat had scored 610 runs in three matches. In this series, he scored 213 runs in Nagpur and 243 runs in Delhi. He has also scored three consecutive centuries against Sri Lanka. Taking inspiration from his old record, Virat can end the drought of centuries in this series.
