Was Yogi Adityanath able to maintain the trust of the people of Uttar Pradesh during his five-year government? Was Akhilesh Yadav able to pull the voter into the court of Samajwadi Party due to the work of his government? Could Congress’ state in-charge Priyanka Gandhi be able to enhance the prestige of the Congress, which has been trying to save its existence in Uttar Pradesh for 33 years? Was Mayawati able to increase her political stature in Uttar Pradesh this time? There are many questions that have been answered in seven phases of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Voters’ decision is captured in EVMs.
In this time’s assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, 4441 candidates tried their luck. In these, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath himself, SP supremo Akhilesh Yadav, SP rebel Swamiprasad Maurya, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Jansatta Dal chief Raghuraj Pratap Singh, Mukhtar Ansari’s son Afzal Ansari and more than a hundred political stalwarts were in the fray.
The fate of all these is imprisoned in EVMs till March 10. But the interesting thing is that so far about 80 percent of the candidates who have contested in the assembly elections in the state are not able to save their deposits. It has a long history. The story is from 1993. In this election, 9726 candidates had contested to become MLA in the election fray. But alas, 88.95 percent of them had to save even their bail.
In 2012, out of 6839 candidates, 5034 had forfeited their deposits. In 2017 also, the condition of 3736 out of 4853 candidates was similar. In this year’s assembly elections, 4441 candidates were in the fray. How many of these are forfeited? it would be interesting. At present, the assembly elections of Uttar Pradesh are over. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has held 206 election rallies in this election. There are many districts where Yogi went two or three times during elections. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has done 90 rallies. Whereas he has to face a thorn in the face of Sirathu himself.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has held more than 125 big election rallies. He has run his Vijay Yatra and chariot in 25 districts. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also joined him in Varanasi. Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has addressed 20 election meetings. At the same time, his son-in-law Satish Chandra Mishra has held 151 election meetings. They have been seen constantly engaged in efforts to cultivate Brahmins. On the other hand, Priyanka Gandhi has also left no stone unturned in trying to give strength to the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. He has conducted 162 election meetings and 42 road shows.
Whom do 15 and a half crore voters of Uttar Pradesh choose as their alambardar this time? A decision on this will be taken on March 10. But after the last phase of polling on March 7, the way election surveys have come out, the Bharatiya Janata Party government is seen to be formed. However, the round of dismissal of these surveys continues. In this year’s assembly elections, a direct contest has been seen between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Samajwadi Party. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see how much impact Akhilesh Yadav could leave on the public by taking small Chhatrapas along. And how many numbers did the people of the state give to Yogi Adityanath, who ran the government with absolute majority for five years?
