A Delhi court has extended by four days the custody of Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair in a case related to an ‘objectionable tweet’ against a Hindu deity in 2018. Mohammad Zubair does a fact check and Nupur Sharma was in the news since the case. Meanwhile, Delhi Police sources said that the unidentified Twitter handle from which the complaint led to the arrest of Mohammad Zubair was no longer present on the microblogging site.
Sources in Delhi Police said that the Twitter handle from which Zubair’s tweet was complained about has been deleted. According to sources, the police have said that efforts are on to identify and reach out to that Twitter account user so that the reasons for deleting the account can be known. According to sources, the police said that it is feared that the person must have got scared after the matter came up for discussion.
According to the FIR, the Twitter handle of Hanuman Bhakt (@balajikijaiin) shared the tweet of Mohammad Zubair, in which Zubair tweeted, ‘Honeymoon Hotel before 2014 and Hanuman Hotel after 2014.’ Along with this, a picture was shared on which the name of the hotel was changed from “Honeymoon Hotel” to “Hanuman Hotel” on the signboard.

According to the FIR, a Twitter user tweeted, “Our Lord Hanuman ji is being linked to a honeymoon which is an obvious insult to Hindus as he (Lord Hanuman) is celibate. Please take action against this person.”
A Delhi court on Tuesday sent Mohammad Zubair to four-day custody. The co-founder of Alt News has been arrested by Delhi Police for hurting religious sentiments through a tweet made in the year 2018. Delhi Police Deputy Commissioner (Intelligence and Strategic Operations) KPS Malhotra said that a case was registered against Zubair on June 20 under sections 153A and 295A of the IPC.
