A new voter class ‘beneficiaries’, irrespective of religion and caste, also emerged during the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, who silently voted for the BJP. Women were the largest in this new category. Although food grains were given to the poor of the entire country during the Corona period, the Uttar Pradesh government went ahead and provided pulses, oil and spices to the people.
Along with this, a large number of people also got the benefit of central government schemes like Ujjwala, Prime Minister’s house, toilets etc. The most important thing here is that most of the schemes are related to women. If there is no cooking material in the house, then the woman of the house will be the most troubled. Women also got the maximum benefit of toilets and Ujjwala cylinders under the scheme. Apart from this, houses were also built in the name of women. It is believed that this ‘beneficiary’ class quietly played an important role in winning the BJP.
In the results of the assembly elections, there are indications that Yogi’s image is dominating the caste division in Uttar Pradesh. Second, the voters of the upper castes of the state are still with Yogi. Even after Om Prakash Rajbhar, Swami Prasad Maurya and Dharam Singh Saini joined the Samajwadi Party, Akhilesh Yadav could not completely bring the backwards into his side.
The people of the state showed confidence in the pairing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. Yogi’s image was so true to public trust that people came out openly and voted in his name. Better law and order and a double dose of poor welfare schemes kept people’s trust and motivated them to vote.
The entire election in Uttar Pradesh was fought on the face of Yogi Adityanath under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. After the election announcement, the Prime Minister held 27 meetings. In the meetings, the Prime Minister made Yogi Adityanath the focal point of the Uttar Pradesh elections by giving slogans like ‘UP ne bhari hunkar phir ek baar yogi sarkar’ and ‘Aanege to Yogi hi’. Yogi also took the entire election on his shoulder without caring about the result. In the elections, he did more than 200 meetings and road shows. Set the agenda for the election. As a result of this, many candidates who were considered weak also won the election.
Despite inflation, unemployment, cattle and farmers being some of the issues, the image of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had such a deep impact on the people that people voted for BJP by rising above caste divisions. The upper castes have already been considered voters of the BJP, but Yogi not only saved these voters but also connected the backward ones with him. At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav failed to associate himself with the backwards. They could not assure security to this class of voters. Perhaps this was the reason why he did not get the expected success.
Last minute announcements made for farmers became life saver for BJP
Before the assembly elections, the withdrawal of three agricultural laws from the central government and the Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh had announced a 50 percent rebate in the electricity bills of private tubewells, giving a big relief to the farmers. These announcements proved to be life-saving for the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh. There was huge anger among the farmers regarding the three agricultural laws brought by the central government.
Several groups of farmers fought for 14 months demanding the withdrawal of these laws. During this, he continued to perform continuously on all the borders of Delhi. On November 19, 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi suddenly decided to withdraw all three agricultural laws and constitute a committee to formulate a policy on Minimum Support Price (SSP) of crops.
This decision served to quell the anger of the farmers of Uttar Pradesh, especially western UP, who were supporters of the BJP but were ready to splurge due to the stubborn nature of the government. In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party, the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party accused his government of promising free electricity to domestic consumers. After this, the government of Uttar Pradesh came on the back foot and a week before the announcement of the elections, the government had to announce a 50 percent discount in the electricity bills of private tubewells.
