The Congress party on Thursday (June 23, 2022) announced the name of new members for the Working Committee (CWC), with Kumari Selja and Abhishek Manu Singhvi in the main body. At the same time, T Subbarami Reddy has been made a permanent invitee and Ajay Kumar Lallu has been made a special invitee member for CWC. If we look at these new members, their performance in recent times has been very bad, yet this decision of the Congress party is very shocking. It is clear that the entry of these people into the committee has not been done on the basis of performance but because of loyalty to the party leadership. Let’s know about these 4 new members included in CWC-
T Subbarami Reddy
T Subbarami Reddy, a three-time Rajya Sabha MP from 2002 to 2020, is a veteran leader of Andhra Pradesh. He is very loyal to the Congress leadership. Although the Congress is not very strong in the politics of Andhra Pradesh, but if we look at the situation before 2009, the party was in a strong position. In the 2009 Lok Sabha elections, 33 Congress MPs won. The party also won consecutive assembly elections in 2004 and 2009. Subbarami also belongs to the influential Reddy community and is financially well off.
In the last assembly election of 2019, the party contested on 174 seats and lost in all the constituencies. The same situation prevailed in the Lok Sabha elections as well. Subbarami also belongs to the influential Reddy community and is financially well off. The reason for choosing him is believed to be loyalty to the party leadership.
However, the party’s decision has surprised many leaders and they believe that Reddy’s loyalty has earned him the membership. He says that if the party wanted to send a message to the Reddy community, it could have chosen former Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. Kiran Kumar Reddy resigned from the Congress in 2014 to protest the bifurcation of Andhra but returned after 4 years.
Miss Selja
Recently, there was a lot of turmoil in the Haryana Congress and Kumari Selja had to resign from the post of president. Selja has been a five-time MP – four times in the Lok Sabha and once in the Rajya Sabha. Selja had also lost in the race for Rajya Sabha nomination last month and the party leadership fielded Ajay Maken.
There was a lot of tension between Bhupinder Hooda and Shailja regarding the command in the past. A Congress senior says that by including Selja in the CWC, the Haryana party is trying to balance the equations in Haryana. Hooda’s son Deepender Hooda is a Rajya Sabha MP, so it is necessary to accommodate Shailja as a member of the CWC.
Abhishek Manu Singhvi
Abhishek Manu Singhvi is a prominent lawyer who has fought many legal battles for the Congress Party. He has been an effective spokesperson of the party for many years. Due to his good understanding of legal matters, he is believed to have been included. With Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi facing the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the National Herald case, Singhvi’s entry in the CWC reflects the party’s growing dependence on them. Singhvi is handling these matters on behalf of this Congress.
Also, be it the Uttarakhand case of 2016, in which the Supreme Court ruled in favor of revoking President’s rule in the state, or the Karnataka battle of 2018, when the apex court called for a floor test in a midnight order, all these He had a role in
Ajay Kumar Lallu
The inclusion of former Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Kumar Lallu as a special invitee is being seen as an award of loyalty. He is close to AICC general secretary UP in-charge Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Interestingly, he is the only one among the four who are below 50 years of age. Ajay Kumar, 42, was asked to resign from the post of UP Pradesh Congress Committee chief after the assembly elections earlier this year.
On his inclusion in the CWC, a leader said, “Is he being rewarded for the party’s defeat in UP? I don’t know what message we are sending. Instead of fixing accountability, we are rewarding those who presided over the defeat. Priyanka also remains in-charge of UP. Once you are in the system and you are loyal… you will keep getting positions, whether you perform or not.”
