Deepika Kumari Mahto is an Indian female archer. Deepika, who started off from the bottom rung in the sport of shooting, is today one of the top players at the international level. He has been in the international rankings since 2012. She has won more than 37 medals including 10 gold in world-class competitions. Recently he created history by winning three gold medals in the Archery World Cup competition.
Deepika was born on 13 June 1994 in Ratu, Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand. His father Shivnarayan Mahto is an auto driver and mother Geeta Mahto is a nurse in Ranchi Medical College. Since childhood, Deepika has been focused on her goal. Presently Dipika is the Manager in the Sports Department at Tata Steel.
Deepika got her first chance in archery in 2005, when she first started training at the Arjun Archery Academy. This academy was started in Kharsawan by Meera, wife of Jharkhand Chief Minister Arjun Munda. His professional career in archery began in 2006, when he joined the Tata Archery Academy. Deepika won a gold medal in the compound singles competition at the 2006 World Championships held in Marida, Mexico.
She was the second Indian to do so. The journey that started from here earned him the title of the world’s number one archer. For the first time in the year 2009, at the age of just 15, Deepika made her presence felt at the world level by winning the 11th Youth Archery Championship in America. Then in the year 2010 won the bronze in the Asian Games.
After this, in the same year, she won two gold in women’s singles and team at the Commonwealth Games. In the Commonwealth Games 2010, she not only won gold in the individual event, but also won gold for the women’s recurve team. Won silver medals in singles games in 2011 in Istanbul and 2012 in Tokyo. In this way, one by one they went on to win over victory. For this he was given the Arjuna Award.
In 2016, President Pranab Mukherjee honored Deepika with the Padma Shri. She has won 37 medals between 2012 and 2021. These include 10 gold, 13 silver and five bronze in the World Cup. She has won one bronze in Asian Games, two gold in Commonwealth Games, one gold, two silver and one bronze in Asian events, two silvers in world events.
