A new rule of the Ministry of Health was informed by the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, according to which from now on postmortem can be done in hospitals even at night. Along with this new rule, the Union Minister had also announced to end the system which was going on from the time of British.
The new protocol states that the first priority will be given to the postmortem of the body useful for organ donation. Postmortem in hospitals can be done not only till sunset but also after sunset depending on the convenience. With this decision, the Health Minister also said that video recording will be done for all the postmortems to be held at night to remove any doubts. However, under the law of postmortem to be done at night, postmortem of murder, suicide, rape victim or damaged dead body will not be done at night.

In this regard, a source said that the issue of post-sunset postmortem was recently examined by a technical committee in the Directorate General of Health Services under the Union Health Ministry. It was discussed during the meeting that some institutions are already conducting postmortem at night. An official source said that with rapid advances and improvements in technology, it is possible to conduct self-testing at night in hospitals, especially given the availability of necessary lighting and necessary infrastructure for postmortems.
