Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik, while addressing a program organized by Khap at Kandela village in Jind district of Haryana on Sunday, said, “I have been offered to be the President to keep quiet. Positions are nothing. I have worked with Chaudhary Charan Singh and he used to call me son. Satyapal Malik further said, “I request you to stop sitting on the streets and dharna now. Form your government, change the government, there will be no need to beg from anyone.”
Satyapal Malik said, “When a dog kills, a letter (condolence message) is issued from Delhi. Our 700 farmers died, but not a single letter (condolence message) was sent for them. The Prime Minister (PM Narendra Modi) lives only 10 kilometers from the site of the movement but he did not want to find a solution to the problem. When I got angry with the whole incident, I decided to step down as governor and thought of taking part in the movement. I went to a minister in the central government to inform that I am resigning. He said don’t make mistake, speak for farmers, fight for them, sit on dharna but resign only when asked for it.
Satyapal Malik further said that, “I went to meet the Prime Minister. I will not tell what PM Modi replied, but it was very painful and I decided that I will speak till the end. My friends suggested to me that if you keep quiet you can become President or Vice President. But I said I kick such posts.”
Satya Pal Malik said, “The biggest thing is that after 2 years there are elections for the Lok Sabha. If you vote unitedly, then all these leaders will run away from Delhi and there will be a government of farmers. UP election results are not out yet but I can say that no minister could enter any village in western UP.”
In relation to the flag hoisting by the agitating farmers at the Red Fort on Republic Day last year, Satyapal Malik said, “I had said that do not call our boys anti-national, do not file a case against them, they have only planted the flag there. . It was not the flag of any political party but that of Nishan Sahib. Thousands of Sikhs have sacrificed their lives for Nishan Sahib.”
