The matter of arrest of Navneet Rana, MP from Amravati, has now reached the Parliament. The Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha has asked him to appear on May 23. Navneet Rana was arrested by the Uddhav Thackeray government in the Hanuman Chalisa controversy. At present he is out on bail.
MP Navneet Rana had made many serious allegations against the Mumbai Police regarding the behavior after his arrest. He complained about this to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. After which the Lok Sabha Secretariat had sought a reply from the state government. Earlier, Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana had met Speaker Om Birla on 9 May.
He said- “The Speaker of the Lok Sabha is the guardian of the MPs… I have appealed to him that justice should be ensured in our case and action should be taken against the accused. I told him about the whole incident of my arrest. The Committee of Privileges of Lok Sabha will consider my grievances on 23rd May and I will also give a written statement to the committee”.
Let us inform that Navneet Rana had announced to read Hanuman Chalisa outside CM Uddhav Thackeray’s residence. After this announcement, Shiv Sainiks went down to protest against Rana. The atmosphere had become tense. When the matter escalated, the MP withdrew his announcement. After this the police arrived and arrested the MP for disturbing the peace.
After his arrest, Navneet Rana had claimed that he was mistreated in police custody and was not even given water. However, refuting these allegations, Mumbai Police had released a video, in which the Rana couple was sitting comfortably inside the police station and drinking tea and water.
The Rana couple were granted bail by special judge RN Rokade on May 5 with certain conditions, including refraining from speaking about the matter in public and in the press. However, since getting the bail, Navneet Rana has been continuously giving statements in the media. A notice has also been issued against him for this.
