In Nagaland last year, 30 army personnel, including an officer, have been made accused in the case of accidental attack on army personnel. In this attack, 14 civilians were killed, due to which there was a lot of controversy and uproar.
Regarding the matter, the state police chief said that the SIT has submitted the charge sheet to the court. It includes the names of one officer and 29 jawans. The SIT alleged in the chargesheet that the soldiers had not followed the right rules. The investigation by the SIT indicated that the soldiers did not follow the SOPs prescribed during the attack, which led to the deaths of 14 civilians returning home in a pickup truck at night.
The Nagaland government has sought permission from the Center to take action against the jawans named in this chargesheet. Apart from this, the state police has also sent a letter to the Defense Ministry seeking approval for action. A large part of Nagaland comes under AFSPA. This is the reason why the state government cannot act directly on the security forces. It is mandatory for him to get the approval of the Center for this.
Let us tell you that in December last year, this mistake was made by the army. The army had information that the rebels would pass through that route. The soldiers of the army were sitting in an ambush. Just then a pickup truck appeared and the security forces opened fire on it immediately. There were common people in the pickup, who were returning back to their homes after working as laborers. In this attack 14 people were killed and 11 others were injured.
After this incident, the local people stood up against the army and an army jawan was also killed in their attack. The Army had ordered a Court of Inquiry to investigate the incident. At the same time, the state government has got the investigation done by the SIT.
