Voting for the presidential election will be held on July 18. The counting of votes will take place on July 21. In such a situation, the round of churning is going on in the political parties regarding the election of the new President. Let us tell you that the term of President Ram Nath Kovind is ending on 24 July 2022. In such a situation, on June 12, BJP has given the responsibility of JP Nadda and Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the consensus candidate with all the parties.
Let us tell you that in this election, if we look at the numbers, then the BJP and its allies together have a total of 48 percent votes. Based on the numbers, it is a little less than half of the total 10.79 lakh votes i.e. 5,26,420. In such a situation, NDA has the highest numbers but they will also need the support of regional parties. In which the cooperation of BJD and YSRCP is considered important.
Notably, the BJD has over 31,000 votes, while the YSRCP is estimated to have over 43,000 votes. On coming with them, BJP leaders say that “there is no question of our candidate losing the election.”
Although the numbers might be consolidating the BJP candidate in the presidential election, but NDA ally JD(U) projecting Nitish Kumar’s name as a candidate could be a cause of concern for the BJP. At present, party leaders say that Nitish Kumar is not the candidate of BJP for the post of President. At the same time, Nitish Kumar has also been telling himself out of this race.
Looking at the winning equation, the BJP, which has a little less than half the total number of votes (5,26,420). He would need around 13,000 more votes. In such a situation, it will need the support of regional parties like BJD, YSRCP.
Candidate: It is believed that in view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, BJP can make someone from backward castes or tribal community its candidate in the presidential election. Apart from this, the party is also eyeing women votes for the Lok Sabha elections, so it is possible that the party may field a woman candidate as well.
2017: The BJP had secured 7,02,044 votes for its presidential candidate Ram Nath Kovind in 2017. But in today’s situation, the total electoral college votes of NDA have come down to 5.26 lakhs. It consists of Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and State Legislatures. In such a situation, BJP is in majority only in the lower house. For a majority in the Upper House, it will need the support of YSRCP, BJD and AIADMK.
