Former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has sought more time for surrender from the Supreme Court on the medical grounds. Senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi has appealed for this in the Supreme Court, on behalf of Sidhu, the court which said appeal to the Chief Justice.
No relief to Sidhu from the court: It is being claimed in many media reports that Sidhu has got a big setback from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court has categorically refused to grant him relief from surrender on medical grounds. That is, now Sidhu can be arrested anytime. However, the public authority does not confirm this.
What is the whole matter: Navjot Singh Sidhu was sentenced yesterday by the Supreme Court to one year’s rigorous imprisonment in a 34-year-old road rage case. According to the information, Sidhu had a fight with 65-year-old Gurnam Singh over parking in Patiala in 1988 and during this Sidhu got into a scuffle with the elderly. The elder got injured as Sidhu was punched and died in the hospital.
After this, a case of culpable homicide was registered against Sidhu on behalf of the family members of the elderly. Then the matter went to court. In September 1999, the trial court acquitted Sidhu of all charges, but in December 2006, the Punjab and Haryana High Court reversed the decision and sentenced Sidhu and co-convict Rupinder Singh Sandhu to three years’ imprisonment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Heard. Then the matter reached the Supreme Court. Where in 2018, Sandhu was acquitted of all charges.
After the order of the court came, Sidhu tweeted and said that I will respect the order of the court. After this it was told that Sidhu can surrender himself on Friday. After this, a crowd of journalists and their supporters gathered outside Sidhu’s house this morning.
