The Narendra Modi government has made three big appointments on three Fridays. IPS Tapan Kumar Deka has been appointed as the next IB Chief. He will replace Arvind Kumar, whose extended term ends on June 30. Parameswaran Iyer has been appointed as the next CEO of NITI Aayog. Amitabh Kant’s term ends on June 30. After that he will take over the responsibility of this post. His term will be of two years. Apart from this, RAW Secretary Samant Kumar Goel has also been given one year extension.
Amitabh Kant was appointed CEO of NITI Aayog in 2016 and was given three extensions after that. Now his term ends on June 30, after which IAS Parameswaran Iyer will take over as the next CEO of NITI Aayog.
Parameswaran Iyer is a 1981 batch IAS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre. He took voluntary retirement from the Indian Civil Service in the year 2009 and after that he joined the World Bank. There he was working as a water resource manager. He has also served as Senior Rural Water Sanitation Specialist in the United Nations. The Personnel Ministry order said that Iyer has been appointed (CEO of NITI Aayog) on the same terms and conditions as were applicable to Kant.
IPS Tapan Kumar Deka Himachal Pradesh cadre officer: IPS Tapan Kumar Deka is currently handling the responsibility of the Operations Wing of the IB. He has been appointed as the head of the IB for two years. He is a 1988 batch IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh cadre. Apart from this, the ministry said in another order that the tenure of Samant Goel, who is heading the ‘Research and Analysis Wing’ (RAW), has been extended by one more year.
