The Karnataka High Court’s decision on the issue of hijab has sparked debate across the country. Proponents of hijab say that this is a religious matter and religion asks women to go out by covering their head and other parts with clothes while leaving the house, while those opposing it say that hijab has no relation with religion. There is no relation.
During the debate on hijab on TV channel Aaj Tak, there was a fierce debate between the spokespersons of Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. Both the people got into each other while arguing. Congress spokesperson Sadhna Bharti said that education of women is necessary, but BJP itself should not contract religion. On this, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma started reminding him of the old statements of Congress leaders regarding Hindus and Muslims.
During this, there was a fierce debate between the two people, then Congress spokesperson Sadhna Bharti said that “they are not well-mannered anyway.” Opposing this, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma said to anchor Anjana Omkashyap that the debate would not happen like this. Anjana Omkashyap repeatedly appealed to both the people to remain calm, although she was not ready to be silent.
Meanwhile, a petition was filed in the Supreme Court on Tuesday challenging the Karnataka High Court’s decision dismissing the petitions for permission to wear the hijab inside the classroom.
The High Court, in its judgment, has held that wearing hijab is not a part of the essential religious practice in the religion of Islam and rejected the submissions of Muslim girl students for being allowed to wear the hijab in classes. The court also upheld the ban on hijab in educational institutions in the state. A Muslim student has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the High Court’s decision.
The High Court on Tuesday dismissed the petitions of a section of Muslim girl students of ‘Government Pre-University Girls College’ in Udupi, seeking permission to wear hijab in class. The High Court said that the school uniform rule is a reasonable restriction and is constitutionally accepted, on which the girl students cannot raise any objection.
