New Delhi. This morning the Indian Army foiled an infiltration attempt in Kupwara district of North Kashmir. The Army sighted infiltrators near the Line of Control in Tangdhar sector and opened fire, resulting in the killing of two infiltrators. Security forces seized a significant cache of weapons, including seven pistols, three assault rifles, about 900 cartridges of pistols and rifles and two grenades. Concerns arose that infiltrators were preparing to disrupt the elections to be held in Baramulla on 20 May.
Earlier on May 5, terrorists had attacked an Indian Air Force convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, in which one soldier was killed and four others were injured. Since then, the army and police have increased vigilance in many areas of the valley and conducted search operations. This incident has increased the tension in Baramulla as elections approach.
Also, on April 5, during the Lok Sabha election process in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces killed two terrorists attempting to disrupt the voting process in Uri sector of Baramulla district. To cover the infiltration attempts of terrorists, Pakistani soldiers also fired on Indian soldiers.

The timely action of the Indian Army has prevented potential casualties and ensured the safety of civilians and electoral processes. However, repeated attempts highlight the need for continued vigilance and stronger security measures in the region.
