The Indian Army successfully organized Surya Dronanathan 2025 in the remote Sumdo region of Himachal Pradesh. The event was held from 10 to 24 August 2025 in Sumdo of Spiti Valley, which is located at an altitude of 10,500 to 17,000 feet. This drone competition not only promoted technological innovation, but also demonstrated the Indian Army’s commitment to self -reliant India. In the event, Agniveer Anil Dev made history by securing first place in the FPV drone barrier cross competition. Ladakh’s Fire and Fury Corps congratulated him on his achievement.
Surya Dronanathan 2025: A unique event
Conducted in collaboration with Surya Command and Drone Federation of India, Dronanathan proved to be a great platform to promote drone technology in India and encourage indigenous innovation. The event was attended by various people from across the country, including army volunteers, freelancers, startups, NCC cadets and established original equipment maker (OEM). The competition was held in two phases – the first phase from 10 to 15 August and the second phase from 20 to 24 August. Located at an altitude of 10500 to 17000 feet, Sumado is one of the world’s highest drone testing areas. The harsh conditions here, such as strong winds, low oxygen and complex terraces, were the actual test of flight stability, navigation, barrier management and durability. The main objective of the event was to promote indigenous drone technology, find the next generation solutions for the current and future needs of the army and strengthen cooperation between army, startups and industries.
Agniveer Anil Dev’s brilliant victory
In this Dronathan, Agniveer Anil Dev finished first in the FPV (First Person View) Drone Obstacle Crossing Competition, demonstrating his extraordinary talent and skills. Anil Dev, a member of the Forever in Operations Division, impressed everyone with his hard work and technical understanding. His victory is not only an individual achievement, but also for young soldiers to attain mastery in modern war skills such as drone war. Ladakh’s Fire and Fury Corps appreciated the achievement of Anil Dev, saying that Agniveer Anil Dev’s victory will increase technological innovation and enthusiasm for drone war in the army.
