New Delhi. The Indian cricket team has been announced for the Sri Lanka tour, with the return of many players who were part of the T20 World Cup winning team. Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed the captain of the T20 team, while Shubman Gill, who led the team against Zimbabwe, will be the vice-captain. Rohit Sharma will return to the ODI series and will captain the team, while Virat Kohli has also been selected in the ODI team.
India will play three ODIs and three T20 matches against Sri Lanka. This is the second tour of the Indian team after winning the T20 World Cup. Also, this will be Gautam Gambhir’s first tour as the head coach of Team India. His influence on the team is evident, especially in the decision to make Suryakumar Yadav the captain in place of Hardik Pandya.
Debutants out of Zimbabwe tour
After the T20 World Cup win, the Indian team toured Zimbabwe under the captaincy of Shubman Gill. Five players made their debut during this tour: Abhishek Sharma, Riyan Parag, Sai Sudarshan, Dhruv Jurel and Tushar Deshpande. Only Riyan Parag has been retained for the Sri Lanka tour, while the other four debutants have been dropped.
Shreyas Iyer returns, Jadeja out
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja have not been included in the ODI team. However, Shreyas Iyer has made a long-awaited comeback in the team. Shubman Gill has also been made the vice-captain of the ODI team just like the T20 team. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant have been selected as wicketkeeper-batsmen.
