New York: An Indian-origin woman was killed and another was seriously injured in a shooting incident in the US state of New Jersey. Giving information about the incident, officials said that this shooting incident was allegedly carried out by a 19-year-old youth of Indian origin. The county prosecutor said in a press release that the shooting took place on June 12 in northeastern Middlesex County of New Jersey.
The women were taken to the hospital
Responding to a call of gunfire, officers rushed both women injured by gunshot wounds to the hospital in critical condition. According to officials, Jasveer Kaur, 29, of Carteret was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other victim, a 20-year-old woman, is said to be in critical condition.
Indian Consulate expressed grief
The Indian Consulate in New York wrote on Twitter: “Deeply saddened to hear about the tragic death of Jasvir Kaur and injury of Gagandeep Kaur in the shooting on Roosevelt Avenue, Carteret, New Jersey. We offer our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased. @indiainnewyork is in touch with RWJ Barnabas Health and Carteret PD to follow up on the matter.”

According to CBS News, the second victim was a relative of Jasveer Kaur. Police later arrested a man named Gaurav Gill in connection with the shooting. The reason for the shooting is not yet known. (Language)
