Dhaka: As the situation in Bangladesh is slowly returning to normal after the violence and coup, the Indian Visa Application Center here resumed ‘limited operations’ on Tuesday. In a press release, the Indian Visa Application Center (IVAC) announced the resumption of limited operations at its Dhaka center. “IVAC (JFP) Dhaka has resumed limited operations. Messages will be sent to individual applicants regarding collection of passports,” the press release said. It requested applicants to visit the center only after receiving a text message to collect their passports. It added, “Due to limited operations, the process may take longer. We expect you to understand this.”

National emergency hotline service restored

Last week, the IVAC announced the closure of all visa centres in the country until further notice due to the unstable situation following the fall of the Hasina-led Awami League government, Samay TV news channel reported. According to the Dhaka Tribune newspaper, the national emergency hotline service has been restored from Tuesday. Police officers returned to various police stations from Monday and traffic policemen also returned to work.

560 people died in the violence

A news portal named ‘BDNews24’ said in its report that the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has also instructed primary schools to resume classes after a month-long closure. More than 230 people were killed in Bangladesh in violent incidents that erupted across the country after the fall of the Hasina government on August 5, taking the death toll to 560 since the anti-reservation protests began in mid-July.
