Indian women’s archery team performed brilliantly in the Paris Olympics ranking round, made it to the quarter-finals

New Delhi. The Indian women’s archery team has performed brilliantly in the ranking round of the Paris Olympics. The trio of Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhagat and Bhajan Kaur collectively scored 1,983 points, helping India finish fourth and qualify for the quarterfinals. In individual performances, Ankita Bhagat led the way for India, scoring 666 points in 72 shots, to finish 11th. On the other hand, Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur remained outside the top 20.

Individual Performances

  1. Ankita Bhagat: 11th position, 666 marks
  2. Bhajan Kaur: 22nd position, 659 points
  3. Deepika Kumari: 23rd position, 658 marks

Ankita Bhagat made a brilliant comeback in the last two sets of the second half and scored 112 points out of a possible 120. 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur had a relatively disappointing final moment and scored 659 points. Deepika Kumari was just one point behind her and had a total of 658 points.

India enters the quarter finals

As per the rules, the top four teams in the ranking round get direct entry into the team competition quarter-finals. With 1,983 points, India finished fourth and thus gained direct entry into the quarter-finals. India will face the winner of the France vs Netherlands match in the quarter-finals. Teams ranked 5th to 12th will first have to go through the Round of 16.The purpose of the ranking round was to create a bracket for 128 athletes in archery. Based on their rankings, these 128 athletes will compete against each other in individual events. The competition will progress from the Round of 64 to the Round of 32, followed by the pre-quarter-finals, semi-finals and finally the final.
